Opening Baghdadskies2 in IE on another PC I was surprised to see no side links. It made me think I have made a big mistake in using Netscape ( I like the tabs) . I am not sure if it is this which is causing the problem, but whatever, no links is not quite what was intended, since they are the thing which define my site.
I feel the Opendemocracy discussion between Marquand and Barnett on Bliar's 28 September Labour party Conference speech confirms what I have written instinctively about his decision to go to war. My view was that he didn't really care about right or wrong so much as whether he appeared strong or weak.
He is no reader of history or indeed anything substantial, by all accounts, so was reacting to events and how he thought they might turn out for him, more than consequences for his nation and the wider world. We can all be guilty of this to some degree or another, but the best of us try not to restrict ourselves in this way. I think all this shows what a little man he really is despite his fine speeches and excellent presentation skills.
I thought he had guts to take us to war. Perhaps it was a lack of imagination.
The polemecist John Pilger writes a fine article in Newstateman. Though his rhetoric sometimes gets the better of him, I am happy with this.
